What's new
What's new in Bivela
The versions of the app that reached testers, and what changed in each.
0.5.41 — October 2026
- “Feedback and problems” in Settings (under “About”): a problem, a question or an idea goes straight to the Bivela team, and the answer arrives in “My feedback” and in your e-mail. Technical details only if you agree, and nothing about how you feel or what you logged; without a connection it waits on the phone and goes later; after the app closes unexpectedly, it offers once to report it.
- “About Bivela”: the app's version, that Bivela is a self-care tool and does not replace a doctor, Bivela's rights, and links to the terms of use and the privacy page.
- New accounts have a 30-day trial, and “My subscription” shows the days left; nothing closes while subscriptions are not required.
0.5.40 — October 2026
- “Next step” on the home screen reads the day the way bipolar care does: a high mood on little sleep (tonight's sleep and the daily rhythm), three low days in a row (session prep), a high mood (your own warning signs) — each with its own screen.
- Sleep insights from the last 14 nights: short nights, a bedtime that moves, and the real link between sleep and the same day's mood (the old card with that title never read mood at all). The day's first check-in takes last night from your sleep log.
- A forgotten password on an account with two-step sign-in: the emailed code now sets the new password (it used to be accepted without saving the password, and trying again said “wrong code”). The code screen explains the spam folder and that a code works once.
- Fixes: goal statuses fit, Persian digits in the calendar and the daily rhythm, “Privacy” no longer shows a false error without an account and lists caregiver reports, and the Persian texts say “هوش مصنوعی” instead of AI.
0.5.39 — October 2026
- Reports to your caregiver work: in settings you make a one-time link for your caregiver; when they open it in Telegram, their name appears in the app and you confirm it. Then you choose what goes — each check-in, questionnaire results, alerts, or the daily and weekly summaries — and see an exact preview of each before turning it on.
- End it any time: from the app, or your caregiver by sending /stop to the bot; deleting all your data ends it too. Reports carry Persian dates.
0.5.38 — October 2026
- “Week” and “two weeks” summaries now count days, not check-ins: session prep (the last two weeks' mood, one point a day), the export for your therapist, the caregiver's reports, the weekly reflection and what goes to the AI companion.
- The next step on the home screen now opens what it suggests: the check-in, the safety plan, 4-7-8 breathing, sleep, goals, routines or the toolbox.
- Calendar: a day with several check-ins lists them all with their times; the home screen's recent check-ins show their time and open with a tap.
0.5.37 — October 2026
- Daily mood logging, done right: each day is one row; a day's check-ins are averaged and last night's sleep counts once for that day. Up to three check-ins a day, at least two hours apart; a sooner one updates the last. "Last seven days" now shows seven real calendar days with each day's own letter, an empty bar for a day without a check-in, and the week's real average.
- A sharper phoenix animation: full size and clean, with no flecks of its old background.
- Today's phoenix card: the share button beside the date on the home screen makes a picture of the phoenix with a glow in the colour of today's mood, and the date, to send to a friend or your therapist with the phone's share sheet. Your name and the word for today's mood go on it only if you switch them on.
- The living phoenix on the home screen now has a glow in the colour of today's mood, and the entry animation in the dark theme sits on the app's own dark ground, with no flash of light.
0.5.36 — October 2026
- Choose your Bivela logo: under Settings → Appearance → Bivela logo pick one of eight looks (Light, Dark, Main, Blue glow, White, Black, Outline, Gradient); the app icon on your phone and the bird inside the app both change.
- The Bivela phoenix is alive: the first time you open the app it flies and settles back into the mark (no sound, a tap skips it; after that only now and then, and short), and on the home screen a living phoenix stays beside your name. Turn it off under Settings → Appearance → Phoenix animation.
- The bird's looks for states: grey when you are offline, red for errors, a turning ring while the lock opens and your data syncs, a small padlock on the lock and privacy screens, a green dot for sync and a red dot for reminders.
0.5.35 — October 2026
- Updating from inside the app: when a new version is out, tap “Update”; Bivela downloads the file, checks that it is the same app signed by Bivela, and opens Android's installer. The first time, Android asks once to allow installing from this source. Only when you are signed in.
- “What's new and guides”: after each update the new features are introduced once, each with a button to that part of the app. All the news and the guides to each part are in Settings, and screens that have a guide show a “Guide” button at the top.
- “Reading”: short tips, exercises and articles that the Bivela team writes and reviews before publishing; clinical pieces only with an expert's approval.
- Home cards with a button that opens that part of the app, and “Messages from Bivela”: now and then a short message about the app, as a notification. A message never holds your health details, and it can be turned off under Reminders.
- For clinicians: the patient report you print or save as PDF in the app no longer carries Bivela's name or logo.
0.5.34 — October 2026
- Doctor mode: “I am a doctor” at the start, the doctor's home and one way to add a patient. For an inpatient, the doctor makes the account on their own phone — no e-mail, no first-run steps, after confirming the hospital's paper consent — and the patients come back on the doctor's other phones. At discharge, the patient gets a sign-in card and takes the account over with their own password.
- “Everything” in “My doctor”: if you want, the questionnaires you filled in, your medicines, the sleep diary, the daily rhythm and programs go to your doctor too; the text of notes and thought records never does, only how many. Off by default.
- “Usage counts and errors”: only how often each part is opened and the kinds of errors, no content; turned off under Privacy.
- “Share with Bivela's clinical team”: optional and off by default; with it on, the admins of Bivela's panel can see your synced data, and every opening is logged.
- “Pseudonymous research”: optional; each day's numbers under a random code, without name or text. Turning it off deletes them all.
- What is recorded on a clinician's phone is marked, so it is not taken for the patient's own entry.
0.5.33 — October 2026
- A new, optional warning sign: “Daily rhythm out of step” — when at least two of the daily rhythm's times are more than 45 minutes from your usual.
- With several patients on one phone, deleting one patient's data no longer turns off the app lock; the other patients' data and the phone's settings stay.
0.5.32 — October 2026
- Recovery code: made once under Sync, it opens your backup if you forget your password and set a new one. A password changed in the app opens the backup on your other phones too.
- Trusted companion: while your warning signs show, one tap opens SMS (or a messenger) with your own words to someone you chose; you send it yourself.
- Daily rhythm: note the times of five fixed things each day and see how regular the past week was; in the toolbox.
0.5.31 — October 2026
- For clinicians: the Bivela psychosis rating (adapted from the BPRS) is version 3 — social isolation in place of emotional withdrawal, psychomotor (catatonic) signs in place of mannerisms and posturing, and a ready question for the patient on hallucinations and delusions. Earlier results stay with their own version.
0.5.30 — October 2026
- If you answer the depression questionnaire's (PHQ-9) or BDI-II's question about thoughts of hurting yourself with anything above “not at all”, a calm note appears with the result, with “Urgent help” and “My safety plan”.
- “My safety plan” is now always at the top of the toolbox.
- Questionnaire names such as PHQ-9 are written correctly, and a few English words in Persian messages are now Persian.
0.5.29 — October 2026
- Questionnaire reminder: the PHQ-9 and GAD-7 cards say when they are due again, and if you want, a reminder comes two weeks after your last answer — at most every three days, and the notification says nothing about questionnaires.
- More security: reports opened in the app cannot read the phone's files, and guessing a password or a code is capped for each account.
0.5.28 — October 2026
- The anxiety questionnaire (GAD-7): the seventh question now reads, in Persian, “feeling worried or uneasy, as if something awful might happen”.
- For clinicians, on the phone as on the doctors' site: the Bivela psychosis rating (adapted from the BPRS) with eight items and delusions as one, and the Bivela suicide-risk screen (adapted from the C-SSRS) without the method and plan questions and without examples. Earlier results stay with their own version.
0.5.27 — October 2026
- A “My subscription” page in Settings: your plan, until when, and where it comes from (your own, your clinic, or the trial period). Subscriptions are not enforced yet and everything is open to everyone. Even when they are, urgent help numbers, the safety plan, warning signs, medicines and reminders, mood and sleep, sync, backup and export stay free, and no one's data is ever deleted or locked because of a subscription.
0.5.26 — October 2026
- The Bivela team can now show a short notice on the home screen, pause a part of the app, or ask for a newer version from afar. Urgent help numbers, the safety plan, warning signs, medicines and backup are never closed from afar; when an update is needed, these stay open.
0.5.25 — October 2026
- An optional “stimulant” or “antidepressant” label for medicines, with a short note that suggests turning on the “My warning signs” reminder.
- “Patients on this phone” (in Settings): for a clinician whose patients have no phone, for example on a ward. Several patients, each with their own account, on one phone, with their data kept apart; it requires the app lock.
0.5.24 — September 2026
- Three new companion programs: “Less anxiety alongside bipolar disorder” (eight weeks, with sessions for constant worry, panic and social anxiety), “OCD alongside bipolar disorder: exposure and response prevention” (ten weeks) and “Adult ADHD alongside bipolar disorder: organisation and focus” (six weeks).
- Exposure steps: a ladder of situations with distress ratings, a log of each practice (before, peak, end) and a chart of the fear coming down. While your own warning signs are showing, steps of 60 and above are set aside.
0.5.23 — September 2026
- A full sleep diary (optional, when you log a night): time to fall asleep, night-time waking, when you got out of bed and daytime naps. “Sleep insights” works out your sleep efficiency and a seven-day average from it, and says so if your waking time moves around a lot.
- “Alongside bipolar disorder, what do you deal with?” is now asked when you start and in your profile too (optional), so the right companion program comes first.
- The “Better sleep” program points to the full sleep diary and the sleep efficiency the app works out.
- Your choice of what comes alongside bipolar disorder and your progress in the programs are now in the encrypted backup too.
- The last-seven-nights chart labels each bar with the right weekday.
0.5.22 — September 2026
- Companion programs (in “Practice”): for what comes alongside bipolar disorder. The first is “Better sleep alongside bipolar disorder”: cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia in six weeks, with bipolar safety rules.
- A light haptic tick when you tap cards and rows, and a confirming buzz when something is saved or finished (if your phone’s touch feedback is on).
- Turning off “Share with my therapist” while offline no longer shows the same note twice.
0.5.21 — September 2026
- Share with my therapist: in “My doctor” you can share the daily numbers of your mood and sleep with a doctor you have linked with; your warning signs only if you choose that separately. Before turning it on you see exactly what is sent, and you can turn it off at any time.
0.5.20 — September 2026
- My own warning signs: pick your signs (ideally with your therapist), your check-ins compared with what is usual for you, a home-screen card with your safety plan and your therapist's number, and an optional notification.
- Tests (under “Medications”): when lithium, kidney, thyroid and weight checks are due under NICE guidance, recording results, a reminder on test days, and reminders for other medicines' tests.
- Visit summary: a printable page or PDF of your mood, sleep and tests (from “Session prep” and “Mood analytics”).
- Sleep from Health Connect (optional, read only).
- A small note on the home screen and in settings when a newer version is out.
0.5.19 — September 2026
- Doctor's section: score-entry forms (such as YMRS and HAM-D) that a doctor fills in on the doctors' site are also read and shown in the app.
0.5.18 — September 2026
- Doctor's section: the «not reviewed» labels were removed from the questionnaires.
- The Persian text of CGI, PHQ-9 and BPRS was made exact and consistent.
Test builds before 0.5.18 are not listed here.
